My journey to peer support

Welcome to a deeper look into the experiences that shaped Brittany's Peer Support. Here, I share my personal journey, hoping to connect with you and offer a space where you feel truly understood.

From the beginning: my early life

My story began the day I was born, into a childhood marked by significant challenges. I was a child of abusive drug addicts, and my biological mother struggled with an undiagnosed bipolar disorder. I have four biological siblings, all of whom I am fortunate to be in contact with today. At the age of 9, my life took a new turn when I was placed with my adoptive parents and my biological brother after a period in a temporary foster home.

Uprooted and self-reliance

A later divorce created a divide between my adopted father and brother, and my adopted mother and me, uprooting my life once again. As I grew up, I often felt I was raising myself and significantly contributed to my biological brother's upbringing. My childhood was far from typical, and much of that trauma stayed with me as I got older. I have put in a tremendous amount of work to reach a place where I can share my story with you today.

Continuing the journey of healing

I am still actively working on myself, as I believe therapy can be profoundly helpful in many ways. Whether a therapist is someone to simply chat with or someone you cry to, having support is a basic human need, and it is absolutely okay to ask for help. This conviction is precisely why I created Brittany's Peer Support: to encourage and facilitate access to that vital support.

"Everyone faces challenges and obstacles, but no one is alone. I want to share my story to encourage others to share theirs as well."
